Search Engine Algorithms

All modern day Search Engines use a secret and complex algorithm to analyze and logically order the results for any given search query. Some ranking algorithms may analyze up to 200 or more pieces of different information on a single web page to determine a ranking score, including but not limited to:

  • Title tags
  • Meta Description
  • URL Structure
  • Domain Name
  • Navigational Menus
  • Body Copy
  • Outbound Links
  • Inbound Links
  • Images
  • Flash
  • Ajax
  • # of Pages
  • Use of H1, H2, H3
  • Spam (hidden text, cloaking, keyword stuffing, etc)
  • and much more

Frequently people in the SEO industry will break up the ranking algorithm into two main sections, the Popularity Score (linking score or Page Rank) and the Content Score.
